Sarah Harrison

Intern: Ruminant

Coming from a small forestry town in rural KwaZulu-Natal, I have seen first-hand the challenges faced by communal farmers with regard to providing for their families. My primary concern is ensuring that animals are adapted to the environment in which they produce, while being fed an optimal diet. This will aid in maximising production efficiency and sustainability to keep the people of South Africa nourished for years to come.

I am currently in my first year of postgraduate research in animal nutrition at the University of Pretoria. I have thoroughly enjoyed my studies thus far and have tackled project challenges with focus and determination. My achievements reflect this, as I was in the top 10% of my class and part of the Golden Key International Honour Society.

I am a hardworking, confident individual who takes on new challenges with an enthusiasm to learn from new opportunities. Working with animals has made me sensitive towards putting an animal’s needs before my own, and I believe that I have something to contribute to the animal science community. I have good leadership skills and can potentially see myself in a managerial position in the future. I enjoy solving problems and have a competitive streak, which I believe keeps me motivated to constantly want to learn more.
