I am registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a professional animal scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat. 400278/13) and am also an active member of the South African Society for Animal Science (SASAS), currently serving as the chair of the northern branch and a member of the public relations committee. I am also a registered member of the Professional Editors’ Guild (PEG), the Southern Africa Freelancers’ Association (SAFREA), and Agricultural Writers SA.
I am passionate about truth – finding it, living it, and sharing it! Sharing truth is beautiful, because it often brings light to another’s eyes, as they are enabled to understand something that they hadn’t before. That’s why I love science, because it is dedicated to discovery the truth. It was Einstein who said: “Science can only be created by those who are thoroughly imbued with the aspiration towards truth and understanding”.
I have worked in the agricultural industry for over ten years, first at Taurus Stock Improvement Cooperative and recently as editor of The Dairy Mail, an agricultural magazine produced by the Milk Producers’ Organisation (MPO) for the South African dairy industry. Three years ago, I became involved in the Dairy Genomic Programme (DGP), a project funded by the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), aimed at developing genomics in the South African dairy industry. Through my involvement in this project, I rediscovered my love for research, and have recently enrolled for a PhD degree in animal breeding at the University of Pretoria.
