Jackie Tucker

Team lead: Ruminants

My success is measured by my contribution to customer prosperity and the overall well-being of our industry. Connecting with the heart of my customers helps me understand their needs and be able to find the best possible solution for them.

The ruminant team brings dedication and passion to the table every day by challenging the thinking of our partners and customers and finding creative solutions

My focus is on technical knowledge and true science for customers and producers on practical, solution-based strategies that add value to the dairy, beef, and sheep industries. This is made possible by making international science and solutions accessible to an African market through locally relevant research and application, therefore overcoming the diverse challenges we face.

I am a professionally registered animal scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat. 400144/14) with almost 15 years’ experience in the agricultural industry, specialising in trace-mineral nutrition and ruminant lameness.

My interests include identifying strategies to help optimise mineral supplementation and create greater awareness of mineral challenges facing the industry. I am also involved in determining what the South African situation is in terms of lameness in dairy cattle, including the cost, occurrence, contributing factors, and implementation of effective lameness reduction plans.

I am the outgoing chair of the Animal Feed Manufacturers Association (AFMA) Technical Committee, as well as the founding member of Ladies in Animal Science South Africa (LASSA).

I am passionate about education and mentoring students in animal science, as well as gender diversity excellence.
