The importance of methionine in neonatal piglets

A healthy, well-developed gut is critical to ensure the future health and performance of piglets. Methionine is one of many constituents that is necessary to ensure optimal gut development. An inadequate supply of methionine severely restricts the development of the gastrointestinal tract, by shifting methionine metabolism towards protein synthesis and splanchnic organ growth such as the liver.
