It’s a wrap on 2025
Throughout history, humanity has grappled with the relentless march of time, striving to understand and manage its passage. To bring order to the chaos of fleeting years, months, and days, people created tools like clocks and calendars, investing immense effort into decoding the mysteries of time itself. These endeavours reflect not only a desire for structure but also an attempt to make peace with the inevitability of time’s flow.
In their efforts, they captured their reflections and fears in words, leaving us with a treasure trove of timeless wisdom about the nature of time. Yet, in South Africa, we add a unique perspective to this universal journey: the concept of ‘just now’. Unlike the rigid precision of clocks and calendars, just now embodies a more fluid relationship with time—a reminder that while time may march on, we are its masters. It invites us to embrace the present moment without undue haste or worry about the future.
This South African philosophy teaches us that time is not merely something to measure or fear but a resource to use wisely. By balancing urgency with patience, we can shape our lives intentionally, savouring each moment while recognising that we hold the power to decide how we spend our days. After all, time is not just something that passes—it is something we live.
“If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?”
– John Wooden
