Chemuniqué is excited to announce that two of its research interns, Jamie Fourie and Anri Pienaar, have achieved top recognition at this year’s prestigious Animal Feed Manufacturers Association (AFMA) Student of the Year awards. Jamie Fourie was awarded the title of Student of the Year, with Anri Pienaar being named the runner-up.
This notable achievement highlights the talent fostered within Chemuniqué’s internship programme and affirms its dedication to shaping the next generation of leaders in animal nutrition and feed science.
The AFMA Student of the Year award, dedicated to the memory of Dr Koos van der Merwe, celebrates students who excel in the field of animal nutrition and honour his groundbreaking contributions to the South African feed industry. Dr van der Merwe’s scientific approach laid the foundation for substantial industry advancements, and this award encourages emerging professionals to carry on his legacy of innovation and excellence.
Jamie Fourie, senior research intern at Chemuniqué, stood out for her academic achievements, commitment to high-quality research, and her dedication to adding value to her work. Guided by experienced mentors and her passion for research, Jamie has demonstrated a unique blend of skill, diligence, and an eagerness to contribute positively to the animal feed industry.
Anri Pienaar, junior research intern at Chemuniqué, embodies the enthusiasm and sense of purpose that AFMA seeks to encourage in the field. Representing the University of Pretoria, Anri’s commitment to making a meaningful difference in animal nutrition through sustainable and creative solutions has already shown promising impact.
Chemuniqué’s internship programme, designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, offers promising students hands-on experience across all aspects of animal nutrition research. The programme aims not only to foster technical skills but also to provide interns with global perspectives through exchange opportunities in countries such as Thailand, Columbia, and the United States.
“At Chemuniqué, we believe in nurturing future leaders in animal science,” says Terry Wiggill, managing director at Chemuniqué. “Through this programme, interns gain exposure to cutting-edge research while receiving mentorship that empowers them to make significant contributions to the field.”
This commitment to mentorship is further reinforced through the guidance provided by Dr Peter Plumstead, innovation director at Chemuniqué, who was recently recognised with the Poultry Science Association (PSA) Mentorship Award in the United States. Dr Plumstead’s investment in nurturing emerging professionals exemplifies the values of Chemuniqué’s internship programme.
The team at Chemuniqué are all very proud of these young interns’ achievements and look forward to seeing how they will continue to grow and contribute to the industry. Congratulations from all of us!
